⭐⭐⭐⭐ (out of 5) Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Fatalities, Flash, and Surprisingly Solid Storytelling Finish him! — but do it episodically. Mortal Kombat: Legacy takes the over-the-top violence and mythos of the classic fighting game and somehow makes it both coherent and cinematic. The first season serves as a prequel, setting up the fighters and their motivations; the second dives into the chaos of the tournament itself. But this is no linear saga — you can drop in anywhere and still get your fill of bone-crunching justice. The choreography hits hard and often, straddling that fine line between stylish and absurd — but that’s entirely the point. The games were never subtle, and neither is this. Each episode feels like a short film made by people who love the source material enough not to take it too seriously. Mark Dacascos brings veteran martial arts gravitas, while the rest of the cast mostly punches, kicks, and grimaces their way through with earnest enthusiasm. Few martial arts adaptations manage to honour their game roots while still being watchable — this one pulls it off. It’s flashy, fun, and surprisingly faithful to the spirit of the arcade. Pairing: A shot of fiery sake and a bag of popcorn — because sometimes, all you need is a roundhouse, a one-liner, and a well-timed fatality to make your night.
