The people they meet aren’t just along for the ride; their choices shape the lives and direction of others. At its core, it’s a character study set inside a Western. The setting matters, but the people matter more. Robert Duvall’s Gus McCrae carries it. He feels real, someone you’d want to sit with for a while. Both men live fully, on their own terms, and that becomes the story.
