11 year old Doug Funnie moves to Bluffington from Bloatsburg. "Doug" follows his adventures as he writes in his journal. He falls in love with Patti Mayonnaise and befriends Skeeter Valentine. They all are in grade 6 in the Bluffington School and Doug tries not to make himself look like a loser in front of everyone.

Ele, juntamente com Skeeter, leva Fedido ao hospital, e ouve dos médicos que se tivesse levado no dia seguinte, seria tarde. Doug acredita que os médicos não conseguiriam salvar o gato, e Roger, desesperado, diz a Doug onde Fedido estava. Doug explica tudo a Roger e antes que terminar a explicação, a mãe de Roger disse que o gato de seu filho havia dado a luz. Doug se espanta ao saber que Fedido era uma fêmea, e pergunta a Roger porque ele não havia explicado antes. / A corrida de carrinhos de mão foi sabotada, e ninguém toma parte na competição. Doug e Patti se unem para descobrir o que aconteceu e tentam resolver tudo.
