The series follows an easy-going student, Bastian, during the last year of his studies in Munich up to the time when he has to leave town and start making a living as a teacher. Bastian is an amiable and helpful albeit rather irresponsible character. When he visits his grandmother in hospital, he falls for a young female doctor, who even he realizes is way out of his league.
