Smaro (Smaragda) Bola - Veaki (Greek: Σμάρω Βεάκη, 1895 - 1982)

She was the daughter of the actors Apostolos and Ioulia Bola and the second wife of Emilios Veakis. The theatrical family was completed with their three children Mary, Giannis and Dimitris, also actors. She was born in 1895 in Kefalonia and made her first appearance on stage in Cyprus in the play "The Lady of Lyon" with the G. Saramantis troupe. She then collaborated with the troupes of Aikaterini Veroni, Marika Kotopouli and Kyveli. She met her husband and from 1922 she participated in the A. Veakis-Chris Nezer troupe. In 1926 she returned to her collaboration with Kyveli at the "Dionysia" theatre. In 1932 she joined the National Theatre, where she remained until 1941. After the war, she appeared only in cinema. For her performance in Pantelis Voulgaris's multi-awarded film "Anna's Suitor", she was honored at the 1972 Thessaloniki Film Festival with the Best Supporting Actress Award. Smaragda Veaki died in 1982.
