Um grupo de cientistas dirigido pelo Dr. Will Caster e pela sua esposa, Evelyn, com o apoio do Governo dos EUA, trabalha na criação de uma inteligência artificial verdadeiramente autónoma e semelhante ao ser humano. No entanto, a sua busca levanta sérias questões éticas e morais, incomodando muita gente. Assim, após um atentado e diante da morte, Evelyn resolve dar o passo decisivo e transpor todas as memórias, consciência e personalidade do marido para um super-computador onde todos vinham trabalhando, de forma que, após a morte dele, a inteligência artificial criada se assemelhe em tudo ao seu criador.

    A dull, overly simplistic lecture on the dangers of AI, ending with senseless sentimentality.

    Underrated at the time of it's release and also ahead of it's time. The world we live in now with the looming threat of ASI on the horizon seems so far removed from the world in which this movie was released. it doesn't feel so unrealistic anymore and it tells an important tale that the language has since evolved to make clearer - Alignment won't save us from an ASI, only if we integrate with it, may we have a chance of surviving with our agency in tact.

    Good movie but the writers aren't to bright. If you can't pump water people start dying in about 3 days, espically in the desert regions. People are going to kill each other to get at the maybe a weeks worth of food in the stores. Then starvation and people will eat their pets then each other. That quiet world would be filled with fire, smoke screams, the dead and dying.
