The only thing Thomas has is a mother. But even then, his insecurity prevents him from telling her everything. He hates his father because his father destroys the only person he really loves and prevents him from having a good childhood. He dreams of one day being able to get him out of the house, whether by force or not. Sometimes he gets beaten by his father and bullied at school. Thomas would never let down his only friends, the fish and his mother, because that's what he loves the most in the world. It's all he has. If he lost them, it would be the end of the world for him. So he's doing everything he can to keep them both close to him.
