I will never understand why this film isn’t more popular than it is. It checks all the boxes you want in a horror comedy film. It’s gory, tense, scary, and funny as hell. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

The Voices is probably the first “comedy” I have ever given four stars to, which says a lot because I almost never rate comedies this highly. What really got me was the loneliness and the complete loss of connection with reality. Jerry is terrifying, obviously, but he is also painfully easy to understand. The film makes you empathize with what it feels like to be completely alone, detached from yourself and everyone around you, until your own mind becomes the only company you have left. I love the way he thinks, the strange logic he creates, and how normal everything feels from inside his head. I related to him far more than I probably should have. It also gave me Ed Gein vibes, but presented as a comedy and without enough time for that side of him to fully develop. Also, a close friend made me realize that he is not Ryan Gosling.

My quick rating - 6,2/10. Jerry (Ryan Reynolds) is a seemingly normal man trying to succeed in his new job at the Milton Bathtub Factory. He lives in a normal apartment—the type you would expect from a young bachelor—with his dog, Bosco, and his cat, Mr. Whiskers. Yet something seems off. As the new guy at work, Jerry is asked to help plan the company picnic, and he meets Fiona (Gemma Arterton), an attractive English girl from accounting. Jerry immediately takes a liking to Fiona and excitedly goes home to tell his pets about her. And surprisingly, they answer. But all this is just the beginning of an insanely bizarre and twisted tale. It is hard to think of Reynolds doing anything but Deadpool these days, but he was in quite a few flix before then. Mostly comedies as this is. Usually more on the stupid humor side though, as this one is a dark one. Reynolds plays an everyday factory worker who hears voices that he projects out of his pets, and they tell him to do things. Don't we all lol. Well, the mundane tasks slowly turn into his head taking him down a trip where serial killers dwell. Quite funny at times and just gets bogged down for a lack of something more than what we get. Still a fun flick as long as severed heads giving you advice doesn't bother you.
