That’s a tall order, and unfortunately the film never quite manages it. The premise has real potential—ATCs have one of the most demanding jobs on the planet, and building a story around that pressure could have been fascinating, even funny. But the characters here are so exaggerated, so smug, so over‑sexualised, and so relentlessly abrasive that you start to dislike them long before the movie ends. Their flaws aren’t charming or revealing; they’re simply grating. While the film clearly aims for a mix of swagger and humour, it leans too heavily into caricature, losing any chance at genuine insight into the profession. Pushing Tin deserves credit for taking a swing at an unusual subject, but this just isn’t the version that sticks the landing.

But once it settles in, the movie pulls you into its strange energy and ensemble cast, and you kind of get tangled up in the chaos and just want to keep watching. It’s definitely a very ’90s movie for better and worse. But by the end, its weirdness becomes part of the charm.

Nick Falzone (John Cusack) é um controlador de tráfego aéreo em Nova York considerado o melhor de todos, até a chegada de Russell Bell (Billy Bob Thornton), que veio do sudoeste. Russell e Mary Bell (Angelina Jolie), sua esposa, não se ajustam totalmente à comunidade de controladores e suas esposas e logo surge uma rivalidade entre Nick e Bell. Mas algo mais grave ainda acontece quando Nick encontra Mary chorando em um supermercado. Ela lhe fala que Russell desapareceu e, em uma cantina, os dois bebem bastante e acabam indo para cama. Transar com a esposa de um colega de trabalho é contra as regras e quando Mary conta para Russell o que aconteceu e Connie Falzone (Cate Blanchett) descobre a infidelidade do marido, deste momento em diante as conseqüências são imprevisíveis. Mas com certeza Nick já não é o mesmo e tem que achar um modo de recuperar sua sanidade e salvar o casamento, antes que seja tarde.
