- Dan Chapman8 de janeiro de 2026This is a well-made film with a strong central performance from Natalie Portman and solid support from Depp and Salinger. The premise is promising, taking on the familiar narrative of whether a supposed psychic gift is real or fabricated, and framing it against the shifting tides of pre-war Europe. In terms of production quality, it’s hard to fault—the cinematography is polished, the period detail convincing, and the performances never less than committed. Yet for all its technical accomplishment, Planetarium struggles to fully engage. The drama feels muted, the pacing flat, and the film never quite builds the emotional pull or narrative intensity its subject matter promises. The backdrop of growing unease in Europe is intriguing and potentially powerful, but it’s left underdeveloped, never quite resonating with the story in a way that deepens the characters’ journeys. Instead, it lingers in the margins, a shadow that could have added more weight but remains only lightly sketched. Thematically, the film appears to be about the folly of chasing fame and the fragility of illusion—whether psychic or cinematic—but it never crystallises into something that truly grips or provokes thought. The personal stakes feel muddled, leaving it unclear what the film is trying to say about its characters, their ambitions, or the dangers they face. As a result, while the quality of craft and acting is there, the emotional and narrative resonance is lacking. Ultimately, Planetarium is a film that looks the part and flirts with compelling ideas, but it doesn’t land with the impact it aims for, leaving a beautifully produced but oddly hollow experience.
