- vangh16 de maio de 2026I'm blow away by how this movie managed to somehow simultaneously feel like A) the type of movie that really takes advantage of the animation medium to show super imaginative things that just could not exist in the real world, while also being B) a really grounded, personal, human story that is focused on being deep instead of vast. Honestly this might be one of the best examples all time of both abstract and realistic animation being utilized to tell a story that's both accessible to kids and powerful for adults. Not to mention that the depiction of healthy relationships throughout the film. We see a father who is genuinely doing his best to raise his daughters with care. We see sisters who enjoy exploring new places together. We see a family working together to get through a very difficult time. And it all moves forward with gravity and purpose. Truly stunning. Truly magnificent.

The gorgeous backdrops, and whimsical elements combined with the very serious and emotional story, can't be beat. One truly feels the down to earth setting and characters even moreso than anything else. I was very invested, and quite moved, in any case.
- Nickyjames11 de setembro de 2025I didn't see this movie for the first time until about 2010 or so and the charm of the direction was immediately apparent. This movie really touches on themes of childhood whimsy and wonder and magic all while tackling more dramatic and adult themes in the background. I've always liked the idea that magic and other fun stuff like that becomes loft with age and Totoro really drives that idea home in a heartwarming way. And as an American I enjoy seeing what rural Japan might have looked like 80 years ago
