There is an added impost, as he doesn't have the strongest of scripts to work with, but enough of one to showcase his talents, and while a couple of scenes may drag just a bit, most of the film is fast paced, not unlike the track at Hialeah on a sunny day. There are also some well-acted character parts. Perhaps most noticeably, the film features a strong performance, in a "supporting" role, by Jennifer Tilly's dress. If you don't get what that means, you will just have to watch.
