The life of Australian tenor Harold Blair who is believed to be the first Aboriginal to sing opera and who later became a model for assimilation. Discovered at 17 while working as a tractor driver at a sugar mill, he went on to achieve popularity as a concert performer. Following a stay in New York in the early 1950s to study music, a visit to Harlem makes him more aware of the neglectful situation of the Aborigines in Australia.
