As a professional hitman returning to his hometown for a high‑school reunion, Cusack brings charm, wit, and just the right amount of existential angst. His chemistry with Minnie Driver feels wonderfully authentic, grounding the film with a believable emotional core. His interactions with the rest of the cast also ring true, capturing the awkwardness of an outcast who once fled his future because of dangerous impulses and uncertainty, only to find unexpected purpose in his unusual profession. Yet beneath the cool exterior, he remains profoundly lonely, and coming home offers a chance—however fragile—to rediscover love and a life worth living. With its clever dialogue, memorable characters, and impressively choreographed fight scenes, Grosse Pointe Blank stands out as a smart, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt action comedy.
