“finish the film.” it contains some genuinely wonderful moments, like the shitty student film ripoffs of successful horror movies of the past. i also loved the moments of psychic distortion, like how the hospital exists as an insidious entity that warps perception of time and space. it kind of walked so the backrooms could run. i also really like the themes of hollywood predation of desperate talent, and how it incentivizes the cannibalism and cutthroat environment of working as a nobody in the film industry; relationships are destroyed and selfishness is rewarded. it’s a shame about the insufferable cast, dated cgi even for the time, and unengaging narrative. the guy who plays trevor looks like if val kilmer was a stereotypical fraternity douche.

The ending is so ahh, also I want to add that the first movie was way scarier

This is a fun meta sequel to the first movie. I love how this movie is self-aware of the cheap effects of the first movie and also has nods to the horror genre. If you like the first movie, you probably will like this one, too. Just be aware that it will break the fourth wall since it is a meta sequel. Check it out.

Grave Encounters was an excellent film well shot and well acted for the most part, what it did was to deliver a good and enjoyable horror film in the found footage tradition. This tries to continue in the same vein but falls very short of the mark. For starters it takes 34 minutes to get to the location of the first while it tries to build the story which most people will already know, and once there it just seems to be over all too soon. The second film could easily have kicked off with a film crew or another ghost hunting team investigating the disappearance of the first, but they followed another more convoluted route which I won't go into as I don't want spoilers, but which in my opinion wasted time and didn't really add to the story. Also don't think that having an 18 rating over the originals 15 will mean you will get a more horrific experience, I can only see ONE part of the film that would warrant that rating. The cover says "Darker, more insane and twice as terrifying...Are you ready to go back?" What it should have read was "We tried hard but, honestly, it is not as good as the first...Are you ready to go back...Eventually?" A mediocre follow-on, but don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

The movie is okay, it’s not terrible. But wowzers I could not stand the annoying pretentious film student lead… This could be a franchise like Paranormal Activity with its continued lore, but also it’s okay if they stop at this movie.
