- Really drab and not in a way that’s compelling or makes this memorable. Also incredibly slow, which I usually have no problem with if there’s good payoff. I’m a very patient viewer. Imagine a spiritual remake to A Woman Under The Influence, but make the characters really unlikeable and hollow instead of endearing and fully-written. Then throw in a really ugly CGI ending and we’re left with this total slog that has nothing to say. Even worse is that Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson are some of the greatest actors of their generation, and it’s obvious they could have great chemistry if they were given a competant director and writer, instead it’s wasted here. Truly disappointing.
- Absolutely awful, painful and unrewarding movie. There is no plot here, no story, just a series of weird scenes that could have all been told in an30 min short story, assuming a good re-write. No chemistry between the leads, annoying barking dog, fake night scenes made with ND filters and an ending you can see coming within the first 15 minutes.
- Die My Love reminded me a lot of If I Had Legs I'd Kick You. Both movies feature the descent into madness of a woman struggling with raising a young child on her own, anchored entirely by performances from their female stars. Jennifer Lawrence gives everything to this role, fully committed to the unhinged performance as Grace. I would say she is better than Rose Byrne at playing a very similar role, and I think she should be getting more recognition than the latter. That said, I still think Jessie Buckley is this year's Best Actress. One of my main complaints with If I Had Legs was that the lead performance was really the only thing driving the movie. In Die My Love, I would not be that harsh, though the general sentiment remains. I think this movie has more of a narrative with a clearer character arc. After finishing If I Had Legs, I was left wondering what the message was. That movie felt like it was stuck in stasis. Thankfully, Die My Love does differentiate itself by feeling like more of a cry for help, one that feels more like a warning. I also think this movie has some genuine great cinematography at times. The blue-tinged shadows of the mother walking alone at night with a gun stood out to me. The madcap energy and surreal moments do overstay their welcome, and this movie is at least 30 minutes too long, if not more. It needs to be more efficient, and there are a few scenes that start to feel repetitive. If it had been edited better, I think it could have been more of a compelling character study. As it stands, I think it will lose a lot of viewers because it feels like a lot of scenes exist purely to showcase JLaw's performance. Overall, this is an excellent acting showcase that needed some more work in the editing room to become a standout.
- As soon as you see the 4:3 ratio you know this movie is for the nerds. A deep movie about a cynical woman who got stuck In middle of nowhere after giving birth and suffering from Postpartum Depression which makes her extremely nihilistic and on a brink of major existential crisis. Outstanding cinematography and strong performance by Lawrence. love the fact that there is no indication of time other than her bruises.
- Well Made, Yet Emotionally Distant "Die My Love" is a well-crafted film, one that shows care, intention, and technical competence. The direction is controlled, the atmosphere carefully shaped, and the performances are solid, often impressive. And yet, despite all of that, the film never truly connected with me on an emotional level. There's a clear artistic vision at work, and the movie commits to it fully. The acting is strong across the board, with performances that feel measured and sincere, grounding the material with credibility. On a technical level, "Die My Love" is hard to criticize - it looks good, sounds good, and knows exactly the tone it wants to maintain. The issue, at least for me, lies in resonance. I really wanted to like this film more than I did. Its themes and approach are intellectually interesting, but they remain emotionally distant, never quite pulling me in or making me feel truly invested. The result is a movie I can appreciate rather than genuinely enjoy. In the end, "Die My Love" is a respectable, thoughtfully made film that simply didn't click with me. It's not bad by any means - just one of those cases where quality doesn't necessarily translate into personal impact.
