The creepy atmosphere, old-school ghost story vibe and those creepy-ass puppets all work really well, and the movie has some genuinely unsettling moments. The whole small-town setting also gives it a nice creepy feel, and the production looks surprisingly good for a mid-2000s horror flick. The story gets a bit ridiculous once everything starts getting explained, and some of the acting is pretty uneven. Still, I really like the look and atmosphere of this one, and it has a few great scares without relying entirely on cheap jump scares. A flawed but very enjoyable horror movie.
