When Benjamin's son, William, receives a letter from London, an old family conflict is rekindled. As William remembers his past, flashbacks reveal the reason for his parent's separation 27 years ago. Through William's reminiscences the events unfold which led Benjamin, a Doncaster clockmaker, to develop the crucible steel-making process.
