- yae54 de novembro de 2025In the interest of full disclosure let me clarify 2 things: 1) I’m a born and(challah)bred Shabbos(and kosher…and YomTov…and etc etc)observant Jew…or as we say “frum” 2) I’m a major David Paymer fan…to me he’s a great character actor that can handle a multitude of roles yet always keep some “Paymer” in them…kinda like Richard Kind…or more accurately Kinds older, slightly mousy brother Those 2 points aside, Bad Shabbos is a fun light comedic frolic of a film…it brought to mind “a fish called Wanda”…but don’t hold me to that comparo …overall it’s like Levys rye…you don’t have to be jewish to like it…just jewish enough…meaning it’ll probably be better received in Jewier areas tho what do i know? Seems Shabbat dinner is the new Sunday dinner…Boston Blue is using it—as are other shows who have characters with Jewish names…and hunger pangs for dinner… This movie is both urban…setting-wise and urbane…script-wise….so if you’re a denizen of the UWS (as is my son), you’ll kvell over this ‘til your shpilkes smile…if you’re a non-Semitic type from a non-Semitic area like one(or more) of the Dakotas, you’ll may have to ratchet back your kvell-speciations, but it’ll still put a smile or three on your punim…even if you’re not a Paymer fan
