Ele é adoptado experimentalmente por um casal cujo único filho é portador de uma doença terminal e foi congelado até que a cura seja encontrada. Gradualmente, David conquista todo o carinho e atenção deste tipo de relações, mas uma série de circunstâncias inesperadas tornam essa vida impossível para David. O filho biológico do casal é curado e a família acaba por rejeitar o robot... Contado apenas com a companhia de um outro robot, David inicia uma jornada para encontrar seu lugar num mundo onde a linha que o separa das outras máquinas pode ser assustadoramente imensa ou quase imperceptível.

Haley Joel Osment gives an incredible and very subtle performance in this visionary, profound, thought-provoking, and somber underrated gem. There is this underlying strangeness throughout the movie, because it combines Stanley Kubrick's bleakness with Steven Spielberg's sentimentality. In the end I think we all are on the same quest!

- Rowan Krzysiak6 de janeiro de 2025Slowly revealed as a modern day fairy-tale, there's a lot of clunk to it but overall there's enough to provide some entertaining and everlasting ponderances. It is odd how it seems to switch to a Kubrick film for the last third but it's a welcome and necessary discipline to conclude so effectively. If not much of an investment, I recommend it.
