Widow’s Bay is one of those rare series that never seems entirely sure whether it wants to be a supernatural mystery, a horror story, or an offbeat comedy. That blend doesn’t always click, but it does give the show an identity of its own. Matthew Rhys is the biggest reason I stayed invested. He consistently grounds even the stranger moments with a believable performance that gives the series an emotional center. As a fellow Knoxville native, I also appreciated seeing Dale Dickey continue doing what she’s done throughout her career: managing to elevate every scene she’s in, even when the role doesn’t offer much screen time. The show’s efficiency helps as well. At around forty minutes per episode, each chapter moves quickly, even if the pacing isn’t always perfect. Still, I don’t think Widow’s Bay fully earns the level of praise it received. Much of the first season suffers from uneven momentum, and that kept me from becoming as invested as I hoped. The series does gradually settle into itself, though, finishing on a stronger run of episodes than it begins with. I’m not convinced it will ever become one of my favorites, but it did enough to avoid being a disappointment. Widow’s Bay is a show I can recommend with caution, and I’m curious enough to keep watching when its second season arrives.

Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” is a wonderfully weird cocktail of small town comedy, supernatural horror, and eccentric characters. Actor Matthew Rhys anchors the madness perfectly, while the show effortlessly jumps from laugh out loud absurdity to genuinely creepy moments. Season 1 is strange, unpredictable, and refreshingly original, feeling like Parks and Recreation wandered into a Stephen King nightmare. The show follows a mayor of a small land locked fishing town who desperately wants to make it a travel destination for yuppies. However, his dreams are dashed when he finds out the island harbors a curse along with a few of dangerous monsters. The best episode of the season is the “slasher” episode that pays homage to “Friday the 13th.” Widow’s Bay has enough scares and laughs to keep things balanced enough for casual viewers looking for something new to binge. One of the best new streaming shows of the year!

One of the best TV shows that's dropped in the last few years. Absolutely hilarious! You're really missing out if you don't check this out.

I can’t say enough good things about Widows Bay. It feels like a perfect mix of Stephen King-style small-town horror and the quirky charm of Northern Exposure. The fictional New England island (clearly inspired by real places like Salem) is atmospheric and full of mystery, with every foggy dock and creaky house feeling like it’s hiding something terrible. What makes the show work so well is the balance between horror and comedy. It’s creepy enough to keep you uneasy, but the humor never feels forced or cheesy. The characters are eccentric but genuinely likable, and even the side characters feel memorable. Episode six, directed by Ti West, is especially fantastic—slow-burning period piece, unsettling, and beautifully shot. The penultimate episode and series finale are perfection - I loved the twist at the end! The show manages to be eerie, sometimes funny, and oddly heartfelt all at once. Bottom line: Widows Bay is one of the most refreshing horror-comedy series I’ve seen in years. Smart, atmospheric, and incredibly entertaining. Absolutely worth watching.

Really great story telling with a wonderful cast. A show you can enjoy without needing to love horror.

This was phenomenal! I loved how it gradually got spooky. It was funny but also weird but in the best way possible! It kept me interested and entertained the entire time. I loved it. Especially love how the mayor just goes throughhhhh it every episode. Poor guy.

They have done something I hadn't thought possible: make a series that is truly frightening and truly funny. It's as if Mike Flanagan made Parks and Recreation. I can't wait for the next surprise.

Suspenseful, funny, beautifully shot, great story, and delightful characters. Can’t wait for Season 2!

Good show, but it was dragged down by the teenage actors. Their scenes could have been cut out, and this would have gotten an extra star for me. Plus, some of the humor was in awkward moments.

    My favorite show of 2026.

Part Stephen King, part Parks and Rec. In the end it's just a formula for great new genre that mixes laughs with creeps without skimping on either. Literally the best written thing on TV right now. Apple TV might be hit and miss, but when they hit, they hit.

Tell me you're ripping off Stephen King without actually telling me you're ripping off Stephen King. Katie Dippold clearly didn't have any original thoughts when creating this series. Two episodes in and I'm definitely not impressed. Silly and cliche for the most part. On the bright side some laughs along the way break up the seriousness.

Loving this show so much; a combination of thriller, horror and comedy at the same time with some great atmosphere, great acting and stories that could come straight from Stephen King. Keep it up!

This is some incredible television and a great progression from Murai and Dippold on the horror ethos of Flanagan, Cregger, and others. Episode 4 was the highlight for me, and I loved how each episode explored an iconic horror trope. My only letdown was the season finale was weirdly plotted and it felt like the show runners got a season renewal while finalizing the script and just chopped off the last 20 minutes of resolution. But that’s not a horrible problem since it means we’re getting season 2! I highly recommend this show.

Just watch it. No questions asked. Any more words would just ruin it. You’ll love it, trust me.
