This movie is just gay banter between Cavill and Gyllenhaal for 80% of the movie

Event Horizon (1997) hurled us into the abyss of cosmic nihilism, where space itself became a malevolent force, but In the Grey (2025), Guy Ritchie's latest bullet-laced ballet, proves that earthly chaos can be just as soul-wrenching when orchestrated by men rather than malevolence. Here, the void isn't between stars—it's between trust and betrayal, protocol and instinct. Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal form a kinetic duo as extraction operatives John Grey and Michael Harris, men tethered not by camaraderie but by necessity, navigating a war zone as treacherous as any haunted starship corridor. Their interplay echoes the haunted dynamic between Laurence Fishburne’s Captain Miller and Sam Neill’s Dr. Weir in Event Horizon. Where Weir’s descent into madness was catalyzed by metaphysical dread, Cavill’s John Grey is fraying under the constant abrasion of moral compromise. Gyllenhaal, ever the cinematic chameleon, channels a tension reminiscent of Weir’s quiet unraveling—except here, it’s grounded in the bureaucratic betrayal of geopolitics rather than black holes. Ritchie laces In the Grey with his signature bravado—dialogue like ricocheting shrapnel, editing that slices time into urgency—and yet, beneath it all lies a melancholic undercurrent. Rosamund Pike’s portrayal of the senior negotiator is sharp as shrapnel and twice as devastating, a performance that quietly commands the screen with gravitas akin to Kathleen Quinlan’s tragic turn in Event Horizon. The atmosphere in Event Horizon was drenched in blood and dread, but In the Grey substitutes that with sweat, sand, and smoke—an arid dystopia where morality evaporates in the heat of extraction. And much like the doomed ship from 1997, the urban war zone here becomes a character in itself, coiling tighter with every minute, swallowing ethics, hope, and lives alike. Both films are studies in collapse: one of space and psyche, the other of diplomacy and duty. And both leave you breathless—not just from the tension, but from the realization that the real horror doesn’t always need supernatural scaffolding. Sometimes, it wears a flak jacket and speaks your language.

full action packed spectacle with Cavill, Gyllenhaal and Eiza. I'm in. in typical Guy Ritchie style, the movie looks awesome. plenty of action and the usual thin story. it's ok though. the cast and the action makes up for it in this Ritchie Popcorn Action Flick. liked it.

There's not tons to think about with this movie, but it's an entertaining ride the entire way through. Fans of Guy Ritchie movies will be quite satisfied with this outing. It's slightly more "realistic" than 2024's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (while still, of course, stretching belief as action movies do), but it has the same familiar wit and sharp style. Those in the mood for a good action flick with a little style won't go wrong here.

In the Grey plays exactly to its strengths-tight storytelling, sharp pacing, and a tone that never feels out of place. It's confident without trying too hard, and that's where it wins.

Felt a lot like the Burn Notice tv show with a bigger budget & Henry Cavil
