If you're someone who wants to see the consequences of neglect and depravity, you would probably enjoy this movie. In my case, it wasn't enjoyable to watch, nor did it provide anything of merit. What it did do, was subject me to sigh-inducing cynicism. If you want a believable peek behind the curtain of evil preteens and teenagers, Gummo can give you that. Showing a dozen dead cats didn't add to the movies immersion nor its "realism", it just made me disinterested. I'd say this movie had some good comedic parts, if they weren't overshadowed by scenes of a pimped-out mentally disabled girl or kids hunting cats. I thought the acting was really good. I thought the cinematography was pretty good, some shots are very pretty, albeit a little cliche. Dialogue felt believable, at least to me, though i don't have a real grasp of how kids from Ohio in the 90's talked. Other than showcasing the town's poverty, I don't really understand the tornados significance to the story? the poverty probably *is* the significance, but i feel like you could scrap the tornado entirely and just set the story in an impoverished town that isn't reeling from a tornado from 20 years ago. I want to understand it, but I can't deny that it isn't my cup of tea.
