Season 3 of School Spirits continues its supernatural juggling act, with Peyton List anchoring the series as Maddie, the girl who can see (and sass) the dead students haunting her high school. Picking up from last season’s role reversal—Maddie back among the living while Simon is stuck on the wrong side of the afterlife—the show wastes no time deepening its ghostly rulebook. This season leans hard into expanding the lore: the mysterious boundary trapping spirits, the mechanics of their limbo, and a new threat in the form of a body-hopping entity that turns possession into a game of paranormal musical chairs. It’s an intriguing evolution, even if the plot occasionally feels like it’s sprinting while flipping through its own mythology handbook. Where School Spirits continues to shine is its cast. Peyton List remains effortlessly watchable, balancing vulnerability with dry wit, while Kristian Ventura, Sarah Yarkin, Milo Manheim, and Nick Pugliese elevate the material with genuine chemistry. The series smartly gives each of them more emotional runway, digging into their characters’ pasts and adding texture that makes their ghostly predicaments feel personal rather than procedural. Not every addition lands. Horror legend Jennifer Tilly shows up, but her presence feels less like a welcome haunting and more like a cameo that wandered in from a different show entirely. As an antagonist, she never quite locks into the tone, leaving her character oddly adrift. As always, the show doubles as a curated playlist generator, sprinkling in indie gems from artists like Marika Hackman, BUZZ, and Jean Dawson—because nothing says existential limbo like a perfectly timed alt track. Season 3 may not be the show’s strongest outing, but it’s far from lifeless. Despite some uneven storytelling and a villain that doesn’t fully stick the landing, it closes on a compelling cliffhanger that practically dares you not to come back. And let’s be honest—you will.
