He decides to stick his machete at the foot of the tree, sealing his fate with that place. Firmino charges Cândida for the debts left by her husband. José Inocêncio is surprised by Firmino's thugs and his body is stripped of his skin. Rachid, the peddler passing by, is also attacked. - Chapter 2
