Igor Skobelev is an operative in one of the district police departments of St. Petersburg. Tough. Cynical. A professional in his field. Used to acting alone, always follows his personal set of rules. He does not let dangerous criminals go, does not take bribes and always keeps his word, sometimes using his official position for personal purposes. One day, this plays a cruel joke on him: under threat of reprisal, Skobelev's informant slanders him, claiming that the operative supplies her with drugs. The head of the department, Lozovoy, gives Skobelev a choice - either he transfers to the department for dealing with organized crime, becomes a "mole" and reports everything he learns about the suspicious death of Colonel Sevastyanov, or goes to prison.
