  • Scott Porter (Jason Street) on the “Goosebumps & Tears” of Homecoming

Scott Porter on filming this iconic episode: "I’ve not often been as nervous for a moment on set as I was before we “broke the banner” and ran onto the field in “Homecoming”. As a character, Jason had been isolated for the first third of Season 1 in a large way, and I felt that as an actor as well. It was the first time I was back on that field since the pilot episode many months earlier. Production wanted Jason to break through with one hand first…but the banner was too tough and they had to cut it open and reseal it so I could finally do that. When the team burst through the banner with Jason out front everything went silent. It was a truly impactful moment. Having Taylor at my back and Gaius and Zach alongside me and seeing the stands in front of me…goosebumps and tears to this day."
  • Adrianne Palicki (Tyra) on becoming "siblings" with Derek Phillips

Adrianne Palicki shared her thoughts on filming this episode and how it started the best kind of friendship...one that is more like family: "This is one of the episodes that stands out to me because of how much time I got to spend with Derek. Tyra and Billy are thrown together to plan this legendary after-game party, and somewhere along the way, (maybe through all the bickering) Derek and I basically became brother and sister—both on screen and off. These scenes were the best to film. Anything that included the Riggins and Collette families. There was instantly a natural, easy chemistry between us all, and a lot of it came from just being ourselves and playing off each other. The whole Friday Night Lights experience was so relaxed and instinctive—we were given so much freedom as actors, and that made the relationships between the characters feel really real. I always say FNL was the ultimate acting class for all of us. The best part is, Derek and I really did become like siblings. We mess with each other, push each other’s buttons, call each other out, we laugh at each other, we drive each other crazy—and we really really love each other. He became one of my best friends and that relationship has lasted to this day. So, watching “Homecoming” now, I don’t just see Tyra and Billy plotting an after-party. I see the beginning of a friendship that became family—and that was hands down the best part of making this show." What’s your favorite Tyra & Billy moment from the series?
  • David Hudgins (writer / exec producer) with a fun fact!

Writer / Exec Producer David Hudgins shared his thoughts with us on writing this episode: “This was the first episode of FNL that I wrote. I was the only Texan on the writing staff in season one and I wanted to pay homage to my home state and one of my favorite nights of the high school football season. There was some flavor at the beginning that got cut for time, but a little fun fact – the names that are called out in the championship recap playback were actual players on my high school’s team. The cautionary tale about the returning hero turned out to be foreshadowing of a Tim Riggins story we would later tell in season five.”
  • Karen Wacker (Production Supervisor) on filming New York, New York

We asked Karen Wacker (Production Supervisor) what her favorite episode of FNL is and why, and here’s what she told us: “Why do I love this episode? We knew every season we would have a location shoot, it was something we discussed when we started filming - where are we going this year? When we saw the episode with New York, we thought, how can we pull this off??  But we did it! We did it together and it was an amazing experience that I will never forget. We lost a location - no problem. We walked into the subway with a camera - no problem. It just felt like this was such an important story with Jason and Tim that we had to tell and I think it shows in the footage.”
  • Gaius Charles (Smash) on being “emotionally wrecked” during Homecoming

We asked Gaius Charles about filming this episode and he told us, “I remember being emotionally wrecked when filming this episode. I think there was a scene after the game where Smash’s family comes to the clubhouse to pick him up and I could barely get the lines out. It all made for a great set up for the performance enhancing drug (steroid) arc that followed.“
