- Thomas Chludzinski4 marca 2025I'd given up on star wars but a friend insisted this was different. This is an adult show about the cost of being a rebel. No jedi, no sith, no self obsessed easter eggs and references to older movies and shows. I'm only docking it for the first couple of episodes which are pretty slow, but aside from that its a gripping and well written story. Just really hoping the second season stays high quality.

No hate to the prequels; I love them for what they are; however, sometimes everything just comes together --the creative freedom, the writing, the direction, the performances-- and something extraordinary is unleashed.

- LD_5024 października 2025This show is probably the best piece of Star Wars story, either show or movie, in the last decade, save for the animated Clone Wars series. From amazing cinematography complemented by pleasing colour grading, consistent gritty tone, strongly written characters and story, the compliments are endless for this show. Very few spin-offs can not only complement the source material its based off of, but even fewer actually strengthen it, maybe surpass it, while respecting it. Andor does all of this and more. If you are a new fan, this a great introduction to Star Wars. This story keeps you gripped at the edge of your seat as is progresses. Especially for existing fans of Star Wars, while you may know where the story leads in the larger canon, this show continually maintains your interest with engaging story/character arcs and building tension for a great payoff. Throughout the show, we are shown many narratives and experiences of characters on both sides of the conflict. Andor does a magnificent job of balancing all of this without being overwhelming, making for an extremely mature and immersice story, both showing the effects of people willing to rebel against the Empire, while also convincing us why and how exactly the Empire is so menacing and powerful. A story that uses action sparingly and instead opts to have strongly written dialogue that advances the plot and lets us organically learn who they are, their motivations, and their values, while highlighting their many dimensions in the brewing rebellion against the Empire. With a surprisingly mature story with themes of resistance, rebellion, and authoritarianism, Andor is a must-watch as it examines the logistics of how rebellions are built, how empires are dismantled, morals are grey, and ethics are never clear.
- Coops_7129 września 2025Back in the day, I was too young to see a new hope, but saw Empire & Jedi in the theatures when they came out but as an adult I always wanted to see a grown up story from the Star Wars francise and must say Andor fits the bill. A great piece of story telling that asks us to individually look beyond tribal loyalties and dare to question if what were doing is for the greater good, and if not, what are we prepared to do to resist it.

Finally, we have a well crafted, well played and well executed story, that is serious in tone and style. The characters are Multi faceted and the Empire is also made realistic, with internal intrigues, power struggles, mistakes and fairly reasonable reactions. It's simply great and I wish there was more coming.
- american_shishi21 lipca 2025Star Wars at it's very best. While it's definitely a slow burn of a show and doesn't have shoot-outs and action all that often, there's certainly no wasted episodes. Everything builds with purpose and that purpose is usually to move you further and further to the edge of your seat until a climactic 3-episode finale (Meaning every 3 episodes sort of tell their own story and you should expect to want to watch these in 3's). It's prestige drama like what you would expect from HBO, but in the star wars universe. The acting is on that same level with many line deliveries that will stick with you long after. This is what good star wars, written by someone with a well thought out plan, and written for a grown up audience looks like.

- Brolaire16 maja 2025Star Wars as a franchise has a complicated history. For many of my generation, it stood as peak Sci-Fi - the original movies were crowning achievements not only in special effects but also in characters and world-building. When word got out in the nineties that Lucas was returning to produce prequel movies, we were jazzed to put it lightly. Unfortunately, those movies for the most part critically fell flat at release, and only many years later, after the excrement of the Disney "final" trilogy, would we finally look back at how good we had it. Christopher Lloyd quit acting altogether because of how much he was made fun of. Hayden Christiansen got endless amounts of shit for how he portrayed adolescent Anakin - only very recently receiving the recognition he deserves. The mainstream of Star Wars always was rather simplistic thematically. Lucas famously said that he wrote these stories for his children. But with the Extended Universe content developed through the books, and later, some of the games, would Star Wars as a galaxy truly begin to flesh out and explore more realistic adult themes, characters, situations, and play in the grey much more than Lucas himself dared to. This is the era of Star Wars I loved that Disney killed. To say that I considered Star Wars dead is an understatement. The Mandalorian briefly rekindled hope for a time, but in many ways remained safe. Only Rogue One began to introduce this more gritty Star Wars some of us knew to the mainstream. Ask many non-fans what their favorite movie in the franchise is and they'll likely say Rogue One. Why? It leaned into themes of loss, sacrifice, and doing the right thing even when it's difficult. The ending, [won't spoil it here] is a bold narrative choice rarely seen in big-budget blockbusters, let alone Star Wars. It felt more like Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down than a space opera. The lack of the iconic and fantasical elements of the franchise, namely the magic space wizards, are nonexistant, making the production more relatable and the protagonists feel more grounded. Like Rogue One, Andor doesn't require its audience to know Star Wars. It explores topics like authoritarianism, rebellion, propaganda, and what it means to resist evil from within a flawed system. It provides much more backstory to the events that led to Rogue One, and by extension, the original trilogy. Unlike Rogue One, it has so much more time to breathe, having and spending way more time introducing, developing, and intermingling its themes, its universe, and its complex characters. What appeals to me so much is, despite being a fan of the franchise, is that this story could exist in any other setting. It's objectively a great story - it just happens to be told using Star Wars as a backdrop. Given our current events and recent history, its story is all the more impactful and the gravitas of what happens that much more profound. Every single performance is exceptional, making it all the more incredible. "The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest [...] the monster screaming the loudest, the monster we’ve helped create, the monster who will come for all of us soon enough." Never in my wildest years would I ever have expected mainstream Star Wars to hit quite like this. Exceptional.

I was let down by the prequel sequel except for rogue one… you don’t need light savers to make a good movie. And this series felt like what a war in space would truly be like. It showed you what fascism and control looks like on a galactic scale. It also gave you hope for the resistance. Please watch.
