A group of cons on work release in Oregon are given an opportunity to prematurely end their sentence if they can secretly backpack a private stash of gold out of the governments reach before it’s seized (or worse) stolen by opportunist thieves. Stars Ethan Hawke as the lead convict who’s desperate to get back to his young daughter before she’s made a ward of the state. It’s not exactly high caliber action, not quite slow burn, but it’s a modest backwoods thriller. Plus it does have a Long Cold Open.
