“The Lightship” is a drama set aboard a stationary lightship in the North Sea. It contains little action, relying instead on a psychological standoff. The conflict is more philosophical than physical, raising the question of whether restraint is a form of strength or simply cowardice. The film’s greatest strength is its atmosphere: the isolated ship, gray seas, and confined spaces create a persistent sense of unease. Yet despite this strong setting, the film ultimately falls short in building sustained tension.
