Really enjoy the retro-futuristic design. Coupled with the family dynamic and midlife crisis. A humanistic approach to the super hero genre.

I just watched The Incredibles and I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I know this is one of the most loved Pixar movies ever, and while I definitely think it is good, it did not totally blow me away. The animation, voice acting, and concept are all solid, but for me, the pacing and tone made it feel a little slower than I expected from a superhero movie. The story follows a family of superheroes who are forced to hide their powers and live a quiet, normal life after the government bans all superhero activity. Years later, the dad, Mr. Incredible, gets pulled into a new mission that pulls the whole family back into action. The idea is really clever, and I like that it focuses on a family instead of just one hero. Craig T. Nelson is great as Mr. Incredible, and he brings a lot of heart and frustration to the character. He clearly misses the glory days of saving the world and struggles with the boring routine of a desk job. Holly Hunter as Elastigirl is one of the strongest parts of the movie. She is smart, tough, and keeps the family grounded while still being awesome when it comes time to fight. The kids are fun too. Dash is fast and full of energy and Violet is quiet but powerful when she needs to be. Their powers fit their personalities really well and the scenes where the family works together are definitely some of the best moments in the movie. The animation still looks really good, especially for a movie that came out in 2004. The action scenes are smooth and exciting and the designs of the characters and the world feel unique. There is a cool retro vibe that gives the whole thing its own style. The music is also really fun. It has that classic spy movie feel that fits the superhero tone perfectly. Now, the reason I give it 3.5 instead of a higher score is because the pacing in the first half is a little too slow for me. It takes a long time to get to the action and even though the setup is important, it kind of drags. I get that they wanted to show the normal family life and build up the characters, but I found myself waiting for something exciting to happen for a little too long. Also, the tone of the movie is a bit more serious than I expected. It is not a bad thing, but it feels different from other Pixar movies that balance humor and emotion a little better. There are still funny moments, especially with characters like Edna Mode, but overall it leans more into being a superhero drama than a lighthearted family adventure. The villain, Syndrome, is fine. He has a decent backstory and motivation, and I like the way his plan connects back to Mr. Incredible’s past, but he did not really stand out to me as one of Pixar’s best villains. Overall The Incredibles is a stylish, well made, and original superhero movie that does a lot of things right. It has a great voice cast, strong animation, and a cool family dynamic that makes it different from other hero stories. I liked it, I respect it, but it did not totally blow me away like it has for other people.

An absolute classic. The jungle scenes look absolutely stunning, better than most modern 3D animated films. And the story? Simply wonderful. Classic Pixar never misses.

The Incredibles is arguably the best example of a superhero movie. Not only does it nail every aspect of the superhero genres, it also manages to be an excellent film in it's own right. Quite genuinely, the only complaint I can level at this film is that the art style/animation is a little rough at times, but then again, it was a kids movie from 2004. There are about a million things you can read into in a gem like this, so the best thing to do is just to watch if you haven't already, and watch it again if you have. The 4K Bluray is pretty good, but does highlight the limitations of the technology at the time.

Perfect. It can be enjoyed by children and adults. The Incredibles is one of the best films from Pixar and another masterpiece from director Brad Bird. He should be running Pixar.

Solid, if unspectacular, and not quite Incredible. Distractingly dated animation, coupled with a distinct lack of Pixar humour, means it’s lacking a little magic. That being said, the story is simple and at times heart warming, with a clever Bond x Superhero setup, which gives a few, fan in jokes… albeit far too few that raise a genuine smile.
