A rogue scientist near a small desert town arouses the suspicion of the town's doctor when his lab assistant is found dead from a case of acromegaly, which took only four days to develop. As the doctor investigates, aided by the scientist's new female assistant, they discover that something is devouring local cattle and humans in increasingly large quantities.

'50s man messing with nature thriller. They are not as good as they are, but they are still worth watching. Clint Eastwood drops a bomb in this one.

If you have watched a bunch of 50's era monster flicks, this doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it does do it all well. I'm embarrassed to say that, as someone who already has a phobia of real-life Tarantulas, this flick genuinely frightened me at parts (or at least made my stomach turn!) It has everything you would hope for from such a film: melodrama! scientific hubris! And, of course, a seen where a bunch of scientists sit in a room and explain how a normal sized version of the animal works.
