Now, upon re-reading the books and running through the films again, I find this one honestly pretty shallow and weirdly monotonous, especially when you look at how meticulously stylized 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 is in comparison. Incredibly formulaic and full of missed opportunities, this one is carried entirely by its cast which, unsurprisingly, brings their all despite what they've been given to work with. Not one to entirely run away from but I would temper your expectations a bit going in.

Brett Ratner gives the film a polished look, with Dante Spinotti's cinematography creating a cold, shadowy atmosphere that suits the material. Ralph Fiennes is the real standout for me. His performance makes Francis Dolarhyde feel deeply disturbed without turning him into a cartoon, while Philip Seymour Hoffman's nervous energy as Freddie Lounds adds some of the film's nastier tension. The cast is strong enough that even when the story enters familiar territory, I remained invested in where it was going. The film does occasionally feel too comfortable leaning on what came before it. Anthony Hopkins slips effortlessly back into Hannibal Lecter, though there are moments when the performance feels more like a return to an iconic character than the genuinely frightening presence he was before. Still, Red Dragon is well made, consistently engaging and darker than its reputation might suggest. Fiennes gives the film its strongest performance, and the procedural structure keeps the story moving even when it follows familiar beats. It may live in the shadow of The Silence of the Lambs, but I found Red Dragon to be a solid thriller in its own right.
- Zokkiie23 września 2026Edward Norton is probably my favorite part of this. He gives Will Graham a really haunted, intense quality, and the investigation keeps a good amount of tension throughout. Ralph Fiennes is seriously creepy too, while Emily Watson and Philip Seymour Hoffman are both great in their supporting roles. Hopkins is still fun as Lecter, and the scenes between him and Norton are easily some of the best parts. It doesn’t have the same atmosphere or psychological punch as The Silence of the Lambs, and some of the Lecter stuff feels a little too familiar by this point. Fiennes also gets a bit theatrical at times, but I still think he works really well in the role. The movie is basically a very solid serial-killer thriller with a great cast, even if it never reaches the level of the best Lecter movie.

- Oʂɯαʅԃσ Rσყҽƚƚ15 marca 2026After "The Silence of the Lambs" and "Hannibal", it was logical to do a remake of "Manhunter" to complete the trilogy with Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal in all parts. Too much time has passed since I watched the original movie for me to be able to remember all the details, but it seems to me that "Red Dragon" is an almost exact copy of "Manhunter".

Hollywood had to reimagine and solidify Hopkins as the one true Lektor. So many scripted similarities in the film. And Norton, for as good an actor as he is he cannot touch Peterson’s Graham. It’s good, just Not as great as Manhunter.
- Max7 listopada 2025An unexpectedly great prequel — not because it connects to the previous films, but because it stands strong as a movie on its own. Anthony Hopkins is, as always, mesmerizing, though this time he feels more like a side character. The real star here is Ralph Fiennes, known to most as Lord Voldemort — though yes, this time he actually has a nose (just kidding). His performance is absolutely chilling, making Voldemort seem almost friendly and approachable in comparison to this Role. It’s top-tier acting that easily stands alongside Hopkins. Edward Norton also delivers a solid performance, even if not quite as powerful as the other two. All in all, a fantastic film with a few brilliant Plot Twists that keep you hooked right until the end.
