Mission: Impossible Ratings & Reviews
- Kevin Ward7 lipca 2025I checked out of the Mission: Impossible films after part 3 and haven’t looked back despite the praise for McQuarrie’s more recent entries. But with part 7 on the horizon and my kids showing interest in that, we’re going to probably tackle the entire franchise. I had completely forgotten that Brian De Palma directed this one. In fact, the only thing I remembered about this film was that iconic scene. De Palma’s direction is so good. I love me some dutch angles, though, so I might be a bit biased there. Some of the action went a little over-the-top—namely the helicopter in the tunnel sequence—but hey, what else would you want from a summer blockbuster. The ridiculous heel-turns and Scooby-Doo masks are here, but (from what I remember) not as egregious as what turned me off the franchise in parts 2 and 3. (We’ll see if that thinking holds up when we revisit those. I remember even less about those films than I did this one). Ultimately, this one serves as really great spy thriller and I am looking forward to finally seeing 4, 5, 6 and eventually 7.
- C. Scott Brown10 maja 2026It's basically become a classic. Still holds up, even 30 years later!
- makdelart4 maja 2026This first instalment of the new MI franchise is already an undisputed classic, drawing, of course, on an even more classic series from the distant past, but refreshed and packed with a host of thrills by the brilliant De Palma. This director created his finest works whilst inspired by Hitchcock’s oeuvre, and this is also evident in this superb thriller. The fact that it may feel a little dated only adds to its charm: after all, the older the wine, the better it gets.
- Sarah J20 maja 2025Jon Voight looks like my dad in this movie
- Oʂɯαʅԃσ Rσყҽƚƚ5 kwietnia 2026The first hour of mission impossible is an absolute joy to watch. It felt like a fusion of James Bond and oceans eleven, with stylised cinematography, clearly reminiscent of classic like The Third Man, and wonderful locations like Prague. The first hour is so effortlessly entertaining that it will breeze by with ease.
- Spaceman Joe28 maja 2025An amazing spy thriller, much different from its also amazing sequels. Lots of twists and turns and reveals
- John Chapel5 kwietnia 2026This is a movie about a gay man pretending to be a straight man. It is the first of an 8 Part story about Tony Cruz and his ascencion to the higher plane.
- Cubane12 marca 2026A 90s spy thriller that has aged better than any of its contemporaries. While it grew into a gigantic action franchise that spiraled into insanity, the original will always be the most grounded and intense.
- Jakeys30 grudnia 2025This is a classic, much more intimate than the later movies and I think all the better for it too. Very tight spy thriller. I love how it oozes 1990's too with the heavy focus on the technology of the era. That stuff has aged so badly, but it's a nostalgic joy to see.
- Daniel Taylor28 grudnia 2025Rewatching this is such a reminder of how cool this movie still is. Tom Cruise in peak 90’s heartthrob mode, slick hair, intense stare, running like his life depends on it. Iconic. It’s also hilarious in the best way seeing the 90’s tech. That moment where he literally types “Internet Access” like it’s a magic spell never fails to make me smile. A very different time, but it adds to the charm rather than taking away from it.
- Ddoughnut22 maja 2025Now, this was an epic thrill ride
- Harish Cousal17 grudnia 2025A sleek, paranoid spy thriller with sharp tension. The Langley break-in is still iconic. Cool, quiet, and confidence-driven. A classy start that holds up well
- thesubcon318 maja 2025Classic!
- Richard9 listopada 2025This was peak 90's blockbuster energy. I saw it on the big screen. The moment that theme kicked in, remixed with synths and suspense, you knew it wasn’t just a reboot, it was a full blown reinvention. Tom Cruise slides into Ethan Hunt like he was born wearing wire harnesses and squinting at floppy disks. The plot? A twisty, paranoid spy thriller with double crosses, rubber masks and a vault scene so tense it made your popcorn taste like adrenaline. Brian De Palma directs with flair, Dutch angles, slow zooms and that glorious tunnel helicopter chase that defies both logic and aerodynamics. Jon Voight plays the mentor turned traitor with just enough sleaze and the supporting cast (Jean Reno, Ving Rhames, Emmanuelle Béart) rounds it out with cool, cryptic charm.
- Edward Schofield17 czerwca 2025Glad they moved away from spy genre.
