“my father once said to me, ‘you don't choose the things you believe in; they choose you.’” should have known it was a philip k. dick adaptation given the type of sci-fi premise. i really love the ethical dilemmas surrounding a surveillance state of this degree and the lengths the government will go to strip someone of their autonomy, even insofar as to still punish them for a crime they never technically committed. hated a lot of the cinematography solely for the lighting choices; i can respect a stylized aesthetic, but that doesn’t mean i have to like it. colin farrell in this film is so sexy and kind of pathetic and it made me feral.

Not as great as I remembered but still pretty good

I just revisited Minority Report after twenty years, and I’m amazed at how well it holds up against the Philip K. Dick short story I recently read. It’s actually much more complex than the original text. I usually prefer it when a director puts their own spin on the source material, and Spielberg definitely did that here—by using only about half of the original plot, he created something that feels like a genuine evolution of the story rather than a mere copy.

I remember watching this as a kid and being completely disinterested. I don't know what child me was thinking 'cause this shit rocks. I watched the open matte copy, looks amazing.

After rewatching it after so many years, the precrime plot does feel a bit silly now, but the CGI still holds up remarkably well. better than some movies made today. The future world was crafted so beautifully that Minority Report was truly an amazing experience to watch in theaters back then.

Watched this with just the kids and I while their mom had to work late. I think my favorite Spielberg films are those that are firmly in the sci-fi fantasy genre. I remember 2002 Kevin being kind of blown away by the visual aesthetic of this film, much of which still holds up fairly well today. I also remember seeing this not too far apart from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones which came out the same summer. They both have very similar scenes in which there’s a chase through a production line / factory. And Minority Report’s visuals looked sooo much better. (End weird personal anecdote). Still love this movie. Introduced me to Colin Farrell with an American accent. I remember it being really jarring to see him do interviews after seeing this movie. (Wait, that’s what he sounds like in real life?).  I’m a sucker for films that explore time-travel/past-future and Minority Report actually has a really interesting premise at its center. A paradoxical notion of arresting people for crimes before they’ve actually committed them is a beautifully thought provoking concept. Great movie, great visuals, John Williams Score. Great minor supporting appearances from Peter Stormare and Tim Blake Nelson. Spielberg certainly knows how to put a movie together.

Perfect execution, Spielberg at his best, how to explain a complex concept into a easy narrative. Obviously has its flaws, but if you open your mind... A real enjoyable film, plus Tom Cruise is in it and he doesn't run (as he likes at least)

There are certain roles that I believe just couldn't have been done without Tom Cruise. This was not one of them. Here is a list of actors I think could've starred in this movie instead and done the same if not better during it's time period: Will Smith (not now, I'm talking about irobot era Will Smith) Keanu Reeves Brad Pitt Matt Damon Leonardo DiCaprio Denzel Washington and if he were a little younger at the time, Harrison Ford.

Colin Farrell's character made much more sense to me after he later admitted he was coming off a coke high in basically every scene. Surprisingly, him being sweaty and pale the entire time actually just adds to the atmosphere

This was a rewatch for me, but it was enjoyable. The future tech is pretty cool and a great addition to the story which is a pretty unique and added drama to this sci-fi thriller. A pretty good watch IMO.

Tom Cruise may freak me out but he makes the best movies.

My god, does Tim Cruise just get worse with each movie he was in? Magnolia, and perhaps Interview with the Vampire or Vanilla Sky to throw him a bone, but geez. What a twatwaffle

Never seen this before. Besides a few plot issues, it was a decent movie.
