This one’s the cinematic equivalent of a franchise wheeze, a low budget, rights retention sequel that trades horror for hallway drama and mutant bugs for moody monologues. The setup? A man confined to a plastic bubble, his sister and their friend trying to survive in an apartment complex stalked by Judas Breed insects. It’s Rear Window meets straight to DVD survival horror, minus the suspense. The cast tries, Karl Geary broods, Alexis Dziena wanders, Lance Henriksen pops in to collect a paycheck, but the whole thing feels like a stage play with occasional bug attacks. The creature effects are sparse, the pacing glacial and the atmosphere? Mostly recycled from better films. Watching it feels like a contractual obligation. The plot barely connects to the original, the tone is all over the place and the scares are few and far between. It’s not scary, it’s not stylish and it’s definitely not essential. But I watched it. Because sometimes, you need to see how far a franchise can fall. Mimic 3: Sentinel is the kind of sequel that makes you appreciate the original even more. It’s slow, strange and best left in the tunnels, but it’s in the Plex library now, filed under “completionist regret.”
