This is where I first saw Samuel L Jackson, before Pulp Fiction came out. It is very much one of those so stupid its good movies. Fun on a rainy day stuck inside with a big bowl of weed, pizza and beer.

“A blast from the VHS era—corny jokes, over‑the‑top action, and a ton of charm. It’s the kind of comedy that reminds you why spoofs used to rule the shelves.”

Saw this one on VHS sometime in the mid-’90s, back when spoof movies were everywhere and every rental shelf had at least one with a gun, a badge and a banana in the tailpipe. It’s a parody of buddy cop flicks, mostly Lethal Weapon, with Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson playing it straight while everything around them goes full absurd. The plot? Something about microfilm, cocaine cookies and the Wilderness Girls. But really, it’s just an excuse for gags, some land, some don’t and some feel like they were recycled from Police Squad leftovers. Tim Curry hams it up, Kathy Ireland plays it earnest and William Shatner shows up as a villain with a name that sounds like a rejected Bond parody. There are moments that genuinely made me laugh, especially if you grew up with Naked Gun, Airplane and the Zucker-Abrahams school of chaos. But it never quite reaches their heights. I liked it enough to finish it, chuckled a few times and moved on. It’s the kind of film that made adult years feel mildly amused, slightly nostalgic and just self aware enough to earn a spot in the “okay” pile.
