A ruthlessly clever thriller that keeps tightening the screws right up to the end. What starts as a slick heist story about a corporate headhunter moonlighting as an art thief spirals into something far more desperate and inventive, and the film never lets you get comfortable. The plot twists constantly without ever feeling cheap every turn is earned, and the tone shifts from stylish crime caper to genuinely tense survival thriller without losing its footing. Aksel Hennie carries it well, playing a character who's arrogant enough to deserve some of what's coming but sympathetic enough that you're still rooting for him. Sharp, unpredictable, and never boring. One of the better entries in the genre.

What great movie! Violence, sex, action — what more could you want?! Seriously though, Headhunters is a true gem that should be much more widely known, but isn’t because it’s not in English. The writing and direction are excellent, and the film manages to keep you on the edge of your seat, but still offer plenty of story twists and character development. Speaking of characters, the acting is top-notch. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s performance is great, as he always is IMO, but the real standout is Aksel Hennie as Roger. Terror, smugness, joy, panic, Aksel essentially runs the gamut of every possible emotion through the course of the film, and he nails each one perfectly. Then there’s the physical aspect of the performance he gives. Every injury feels real, and the pain genuine. Saying it’s a convincing performance is an understatement. To end this review before I babble any longer, it’s a hell of a flick. Yes, it’s subtitles required since it’s not in English, which deters some people, but it’s very much worth the tiny effort required to read as you watch.
