Odległa przyszłość. Trwa walka o prymat w kosmosie. Do czasu jednak...

A movie that's far too good to be as little remembered as it is.

Caught this one on a movie channel, expecting pew-pew space battles, got a soulful sci-fi parable instead. Dennis Quaid plays Willis Davidge, a human pilot stranded on a hostile planet after a dogfight with a Drac alien ship. Turns out the Drac pilot, Jeriba “Jerry” Shigan (Louis Gossett Jr.), crash landed too. What starts as mutual hatred slowly morphs into survival driven cooperation, then genuine friendship. The twist? Jerry’s species reproduces asexually and asks Willis to care for his child. Wolfgang Petersen directs with sincerity, leaning into character drama over flashy effects. The visuals are modest, but the emotional beats hit hard. I liked the premise, the performances and the way it made movie channel nights feel thoughtful, unexpected and quietly moving, with alien bonding, cultural exchange and a finale that’s more heart than hardware.

Great movie that still holds up, the inclusion of the actual Mine because the producers thought it was needed, is a pretty funny piece of trivia that doesn't really distract from the movie. even as a child the title seemed obvious, anyway go in blind if you like small scale character driven sci-fi but don't be surprised if it feels familiar as it has been copied many times since in many sci-fi Tv shows.

Many light years from earth the space station is under threat of attack from the 'Dracon's' a fierce battle between ships from both sides follows, 'Earth' vessels pilot 'Willis Davidge' (Dennis Quaid) gives chase to a enemy ship, the 'Dracon' pilot ejects after his ship is damaged as both ships are pulled in by the planet they approach, 'Willis's' ship collides with the stricken 'Dracon' vessel which leads to his ship crash landing on the desolate planet. Only 'Willis' survives the crash, knowing that the 'Dracon' was also on the planet, he sets out to finish the ''fight'' However the two after fronting each other with hostile intent realize that survival outweighed the need to kill the other. Survival and the hope of rescue encourages them despite language difficulties to work together. The planet proves to be even more inhospitable than they could ever imagine, their only unlikely hope is to be rescued......a friendship of sorts emerges between them, they both try to understand the other. (be grateful that the 'Drac' 'Jeriba' (jerry) Shigan' (Louis Gossett jnr) decided to learn English, had he not done so we'd not have understood the banter) There are many dangers the two have to confront and an unexpected to 'Willis' that is, event to come, 'Jeriba' will ask his earthly companion to care for the child he is about to give birth too. There are moments of both humour and intensity with for a 1985 movie also some good visual content. The film in many ways turns into a touching tale as we see 'Willis' desperately trying to fulfil the vow he made to 'Jeriba' to care for the son 'Willis' has called 'Tommy' The film though a little slow to get going is worth sticking with, worth a spin.
