There was clearly a fortune spent on this and yet it never felt.. Epic. The cinematography and colouring were spectacular. i grew up with the puffy, bloated, over painted Taylor; but in this she looked very beautiful.

- Rob MacKinnon19 sierpnia 2025Visually spectacular in the truest sense of the word, especially Cleopatra’s procession into Rome. Breathtaking. Taylor, Harrison, and Burton are all quite good, as well as Martin Landau and Roddy McDowell. The first half is better than the second, but there are still great moments throughout.

It’s not without it’s own faults of course but considering just the grand scale of this project alone during it’s time, everything from props to makeup, production and etc… is all just over the top. Definitely worth the 4+ hrs for anyone looking for a decent Cleopatra or ancient Rome/Egypt western interpretations I’d event go as far as to say that this is a must watch considering the lack lustre bore films we get now days unfortunately. Hollywood just don’t make em like this anymore period. Go and watch it and make your own decision on whether or not this is in fact one of the best (if not, the best) Cleopatra movies of all time. It sure was for me that’s for sure. Everything from the script, behind the screen contents and even Liz’s visible tracheotomy scar fired so many questions of mine that simply just needed to be answered or explained further since this was all way before my time.
