Very strong individual performances, but modern audiences may find parts of it to be dated. A viewer may also be jarred by how the personal trials of Charley Gordon, the protagonist, are glossed over in favor of a 1960s era portrayal of how the reach of technology can exceed its grasp. There is practically no concern given to the personal heartbreak and tragedy of the stars. This is a key difference from the short story, _Flowers for Algernon_, that the movie is based on.
