Anora is a tour de force acting showcase for her, instantly propelling yet another Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Manson Family actor to soaring heights. The movie starts out with a frenetic pace, a sex-infused blitz through a week in Ani's life with Mark Eidelstein's Ivan. This part of the movie is visually engaging, though I preferred the second half. Here, the story slows down significantly and allows Madison's acting to truly shine. It's also where the comedy starts to burst through, with many laugh-out-loud moments that rival most modern comedies. Throughout, you can see how desperately she tries to fight and claw, even physically, for a chance to hold onto her Cinderella dream and in her belief in her own self-worth. As a viewer, we know where everything is headed; the movie makes no attempts to hide how it views its characters, yet it is fascinating to watch how much each of the characters try to resist the inevitable. Mikey's fiery acting demands all your attention, but it is excellently supported by Yura Borisov's quiet acting, managing to say so much without any words. The movie's structure feels decidedly unconventional, starting with a spiral, slowing down, before it ends with a screeching halt in what feels like a very un-Hollywood ending. The end result might initially feel anticlimactic, but this character study will linger in your mind, no small part due to that striking final image. Mikey has earned her laurels.

Damn this movie was quite a ride. Reminded me so much of Uncut Gems (2019), coz the moment to moment drama is frenetic, anxiety inducing but also genuinely funny as hell. Every single actor did such a great job, a big section of the movie is so dependent on the ensemble’s interactions and mood changes throughout the ordeal which is nailed to perfection. I didn’t even recognise Mikey Madison from Scream (2022), her performance was truly transformative and captivating. The premise is simple but the series of events is really entertaining and well paced. The dialogue is also smart and in many scenes it brings a unique sentiment to it which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. This is a solid film that’ll have you hooked from beginning to end.

How did she win an award for this movie

It's really strange how a film like this could receive so many awards. Tasteless and unimaginative. Aside from a few rare moments, the acting is terrible, especially that of the Oscar winner. The expectations were definitely too high.

10-15 years ago no one would have noticed this film. Is it the decline of cinema?

    Such a wholesome family flick

the observational style that Sean Baker's movies all seem to have works amazingly in this story. the difference in tone between the first half's partying rise and the chaos and panic of the second half, gives it a very real life feeling idk anything about the accents but to me all of the main cast's performances were completely convincing also the sparse use of loud pop hits is so strange and also crazy (same in red rocket) and the ending is just psycho

Nothing new or unpredictable to see here.

I think I must have watched a totally different non-Award winning movie with the same name like I used to accidentally get at Blockbusters like “Atlantic Rim”.

Good Movie, modern day Cinderella movie I suppose without the happy ending. The acting was great, Igor had to be my favorite character, the dude looks like Putin in his 20's lol. Don't know if this is award winning material, but Mickey in some of these scenes requires absolute confidence. Good for her, she made a movie she can look back at and say, damn I looked good.

Boy there's a lot of Russian, Boobs, and yelling in this movie. And the word "Fuck" in two different languages. I was worried my neighbors would be concerned with all the screaming so I turned it down, way down. I just moved in here and all my neighbors are old. I don't want them calling the cops on me, "Oh sorry it's just me here and Mikey Madison topless and tied in a phone cord, nothing weird".
