He began his career as an assistant director, collaborating with notable filmmakers such as Alessandro Blasetti and Pietro Germi. Baldi made his directorial debut with the documentary Italia K2 (1955), which chronicled the first Italian expedition to K2. He directed over 30 films, including Goliath and the Dragon (1960) and Countdown to Doomsday (1966). Baldi's films often explored historical and adventure themes, contributing to Italian cinema's diverse landscape.
