In the 5th grade, she went to Oakland, California, to live with her aunt for 2 years, where Murray enjoyed studying piano, jazz and hip-hop. After graduating high school back in Kansas City, Missouri, she moved to New York city where she studied at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, graduating in 2009.
