His surprise is limited when the girl refuses to answer any of his questions and vanishes as mysteriously as she appeared. This strange encounter is soon forgotten, as Ehrlicher and Kain are called to a motel where a dead woman has been found. The woman has been murdered. Among her belongings, Kain discovers a photograph of the girl who had appeared in their office moments before, clearly confused.
