With a pay check that is lower than what the local beggar is earning, and with a wife and two children whose only interest is to rob him of his last cents, shoe-salesman Al Bundy is lucky if he can sit down in front of the TV with an ice-cold beer, or sneak out to the local Nudy bar every Tuesday night. Life isn't what it used to be when he was the star of the high-school football team, and when he scored four touch-downs in a single game.

Married... with Children is a legendary masterclass in unfiltered, "no-safety-rail" comedy that fearlessly targeted everyone from nagging spouses to the "large" women at the shoe store, delivering a brand of humor that likely couldn't exist in today's landscape. The chemistry between Al, Peggy, Kelly, and Bud is pure lightning in a bottle, creating a family dynamic that is as hilariously toxic as it is oddly endearing. The supporting cast raises the bar even higher, with Marcy D’Arcy serving as Al’s perfect high-strung foil alongside her two distinctively different husbands, the straight-laced Steve and the lazy-but-charming Jefferson. Every episode feels like a celebration of the Bundy lore, from the chauvinistic anthems of NO MA'AM and the mindless violence of Psycho Dad to the eternal glory of Al’s four touchdowns in a single game at Polk High. It’s the kind of show where you don’t have to agree with the insults to laugh at the sheer audacity of the punchlines. Ultimately, this series remains a comedy powerhouse because it leans into the absurdity of the human condition without ever looking back.

Saw this one on Dutch TV in the late '80s, early '90s. As a teen, it felt like forbidden comedy: loud, crude and gloriously wrong. Al Bundy, the shoe salesman with a dead-end job and a family that treats him like furniture. Peggy’s laziness, Kelly’s airheadedness, Bud’s desperation, it was all exaggerated and that was the point. The jokes were raunchy, the insults relentless and the laugh track never took a break. It mocked everything: marriage, work, gender roles, even the audience. Could this be made today? Not like this. The show thrived on politically incorrect humor that would trigger a thousand think pieces now. But back then, it was cathartic chaos.
