Carlo Bontempi is a doctor, devastated by grief over the death of his wife Adele. Two years later, Carlo decided to marry Margherita Bosio, Adele's best friend. But as soon as he makes this decision, the arrival of a new woman shakes all his certainties: she is Nina Caruso, a scammer who passes herself off as a medium. During a fake séance something strange happens: Nina goes into a trance and utters a phrase that only Adele could have said to Carlo.
