The Brothers Grimm’s stories were always dark, violent, and a bit twisted, but for years most adaptations sanded off the edges for fear of frightening kids. This series leans into that darkness while cleverly balancing it with sharp humour, meta-commentary, and a pair of wonderfully sarcastic narrators. The result is a show that feels thrilling rather than traumatising. Hansel and Gretel’s journey through various Grimm tales is fast-paced, surprising, and full of genuinely clever visual gags and dialogue. The animation style is colourful and expressive, helping soften the more gruesome moments without losing their bite. Underneath the jokes, there are sincere themes about family, trust, and growing up. It’s that rare family series that respects kids’ intelligence, entertains adults, and proves fairy tales don’t need to be sugar-coated to be fun.
