- ርልዪረ29. juli 2026The original 1960 "13 Ghosts" was a very boring, stupid horror film. This one, while no classic, is actually quite good. A grieving widower Arthur (Tony Shalhoub), his hot daughter (Shannon Elizabeth), annoying son (Alec Roberts) and feisty black maid/cook/babysitter/whatever (Rah Digga) get trapped in an all glass house with a sort of psychic (Matthew Lilliard) and a ghost liberator (Embeth Davidtz). It was set up by the evil Cyrus (F. Murray Abraham) and he has 12 murderous ghosts in cages down in the basement. But they all get out, one by one, and go after the family. This is pretty dull stuff until they get locked in the house, the ghosts escape...then the movie REALLY gets going. The ghosts are very brutal-looking and their attacks are bloody and violent. In a nice tip of the hat to the original, people in the movie can only see the ghosts when they have special glasses on. The special effects are excellent and it has more than a few scary scenes. The plot does go out the window at the end, but I was still interested. The acting--Shalhoub is OK as the father. Davidtz is in it for the money (and her character is badly written). Lilliard goes way over the top...as always (take a few Valium bud)...seriously, can't this guy do anything but overact? Elizabeth is full of life and is viciously attacked in one scene but she's not in the movie enough. Roberts is just annoying as the kid. And F. Murray...he can play this villain role in his sleep...and he does. And Digga is funny but her character is cliché city. No masterpiece but not the disaster I was expecting. Worth seeing in a theatre with a good sound system.

Don't dare enter Cyrus' glass house, you'll find way more trouble than you bargained with. Now you must deal with thirteen ghosts, all with a vengeance. The Juggernaut, The Torn Prince, The Bound Woman, all parched and famished. Don't close your eyes. They want you. Thir13en Ghosts implores you to have a little fun with some cheap humor and silly editing. Released in 2001, you can't really expect much more. They do quite well with many things in this movie which should otherwise give it a higher rating. The costumes and sound were both on par with but predate the first Saw film in 2004. In terms of graphics they are quite identical, gore and violence the same. The plot has a few twists and turns and tries just a bit to throw you off. They don't have much power though and it becomes relatively easy to predict the next move. The jump scares disappoint most of the time, but the silly jokes and random lines soften the blow taken by the bad scares. Give this movie a try, it does deserve that. Possibly a hidden gem, but a treasure nonetheless.
- PhysicalMedia4Life2. mai 2026I think most of us can agree that this is one of those times where the remake is superior than the original!!! 13 Ghosts 2001 is a very cool remake with slick looking cinematography & visuals. I love the setting and look of that house it was awesome to look at. I have such nostalgia for some of the cast here especially for Matthew Lillard & Shannon Elizabeth. Tony Shalhoub is also great in this as well. My biggest issue with both this and the original is that we don't have much backstory & lore too chew on for the majority of the 13 ghosts; which is why it would be absolutely awesome if we could have a 13 episode season. With each episode focusing on just one of the ghosts and having like an origin story for all 13 of them individually per episode. I really hope they do that one day. And if they did, I think it would get a lot of views and would do well if they do it right.

There’s something about its creepy designs and over-the-top style that makes it stand out even years later. With the new series on the way, I’m actually pretty excited to see how they expand on the story and the ghosts themselves.
- Frederick Jones16. juni 2025This is the case of a film that failed to scare me, although some of the kills was creative as the ghost technically never killed anyone yet used the element of fear to alow people to walk to there death..... Something which I quite liked as part of a creative aspect, is the ghost buster style theme of capturing ghosts and holding them in a large ghost house was cool, the plot twist not so cool
- -31 minOne idea I've always thought could work is turning Thir13en Ghosts into a one-off 13 episode horror season with each episode focused entirely on one of the 13 ghosts per episode and we get to find out all their individual backstory's. That would totally enhance the Thir13en Ghosts lore and give it more meat on the bone sort of speak. Instead of having all the ghosts as part of the haunted house, just have each episode tell us how each of them all died, who they were in life and what they were like. And more importantly, how they eventually ended up becoming trapped inside the machine. Each episode could have its own tone and style all depending on the ghost. Some of the stories could be more psychological/horror and some can be genuinely disturbing, while other stories could lean more into supernatural mystery even. Just to mix it up and to give it that sense of variety about it. Anyway those are my thoughts on what they could do, if they were ever to make a season of Thir13en Ghosts, I genuinely believe that would be the direction to go with it tbh. Let me know, if you have any other ideas or possibilities, on where and what they could do with it and take it, if they were ever to do a season of this.
