Afflicted with a terminal illness John Bernard Books, the last of the legendary gunfighters, quietly returns to Carson City for medical attention from his old friend Dr. Hostetler. Aware that his days are numbered, the troubled man seeks solace and peace in a boarding house run by a widow and her son. However, it is not Books' fate to die in peace, as he becomes embroiled in one last valiant battle.

    Hugh!!! So great to start learning about your work man! John Wayne is the most sympathetic gunman I've ever seen. Liked this, maybe I should be like my grandpa and watch a lot of westerns I'm so happy to start looking into Hugh O'Brian's work more. He changed my life with HOBY, so I think it's time I learn more about his work other than HOBY :)

    “The Shootist” beautifully encapsulates the persona John Wayne crafted throughout his career, offering a poignant and fitting farewell for the Duke in his final film.

    What a send off. Great cast, great story, a man trying to outrun his own legend and accepting his own mortality with grace. A lot to learn on what a real human looks like here.
